What is the climate version of an electric motor?

Added 23 February 2021

It`s no secret that when designing any equipment, the temperature environment in which it will be operated is also taken into account. Electric motors are no exception. When choosing an asynchronous electric motor, the operating conditions and climate in which it will be located play an important role.

How do you know if the characteristics of a particular motor are suitable for the climate region in which you will use it? What is the climate version of TM Motor induction motors? And what, in general, are these climatic versions? Let's take a closer look...

During operation, the engine is exposed to a variety of climatic factors: temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, solar radiation, rain, dust, snow, salt fog, frost, and also molds and corrosive elements contained in the air.

According to GOST 15150-69, the following microclimatic regions are distinguished.

Temperate climate (T). areas with a temperate climate in which the average of the annual absolute maximum air temperature is equal to or below 400С. And the average of the annual absolute minimum temperatures is equal to or above -450С.

Temperate-cold (cold) climate (TCL/CL). Areas with cold climates where the average of annual absolute minimum air temperatures is below -45 0С.

Humid tropical climate (TH). Areas with a humid tropical climate in which temperatures equal to or greater than 20 0C are combined with relative humidity equal to or greater than 80% for 12 hours or more continuously from 2 to 12 months of the year.

Dry tropical climate (ТD). Areas with a dry tropical climate, where the average of annual absolute maximum air temperature is higher +400С and which are not classified as areas with a humid tropical climate.

Moderately cold marine climate (М). Areas with a moderately cold maritime climate: seas, oceans, coastal areas within the direct influence of sea water, located north of 300 north latitude and south of 300 south latitude.

Tropical marine climate (ТМ). Areas with a tropical maritime climate: seas, oceans, coastal areas within the direct influence of sea water, located between 300 north latitude and 300 south latitude.

The values of the factors for different climatic zones are shown in the table below.

Macroclimatic areas Designation Working air temperature

Upper value Lower value Average value
 Temperate climate T +40 -45 +10
 Temperate-cold (cold) climate TCL/CL +40 -60 +10
 Humid tropical climate ТH +45 +1 +27
 Dry tropical climate ТD +45 -10 +27
 Moderately cold marine climate М +40 -30 +10
 Tropical marine climate ТМ +45 +1 +27

This classification of climatic regions applies to altitudes up to 1000 meters above sea level (lower operating atmospheric pressure of 850 hPa, or 650 mm Hg).

The asynchronous electric motors of the company "MNP Promelectro" Nova Kakhovka have a climatic design "T" (Temperate climate). At the request of the buyer, electric motors of any climatic design can be supplied.
